I want to upload this somewhere before I attempt to ruin it.
I’m getting real tired of fishing you out of trouble, Oliver.

So I'm going to go to you with all of my DK questions. In a recent story that I was working on, my warrior got turned into a Dk, now the circumstances of her death are complicated but she was raised soon after she died. The catch is that this happens after WOTLK so i guess my question is this: In order for a sword to hole power it needs to have runes on it, but there is no one telling my character to go runeforge it, what happens to a dk with no rune on her sword?
Well, the trick with yours is indeed that your character isn’t a Scourge DK! It’s not even very clearly explained in the Acherus questline just what the relationship between a Scourge DK and their sword is (some of my thoughts on that are here), so what a post-Scourge DK would experience is even more of a mystery. They would probably lack the conditioning that causes the endless hunger, but assuming the necromancy worked in a similar manner, their relationship with their blade would probably be the same. The death knight’s defining feature is their rune magic, without it they’re pretty much just another undead.
It is through the runeblade that a death knight commands the powers of frost, blood and the unholy. The runeblade also acts as a vessel to store the death knight’s runic power.
The runeblade is an extension of your being. A death knight cannot battle without a runeblade.
Now, I personally play my character as being irrevocably tied to his blade in every way; the runes on his body are an extension of the ones on his blade and its magic keeps him animated. If he doesn’t kill, not only will he go bonkers but he’ll also stop regenerating the damage he takes in combat and wither away. A newer, non-Scourge DK might not have that problem and may be able to technically go without it for quite some time, not unlike a val’kyr-risen Forsaken but with some slightly different magic. My guess is she’d find herself growing very weak and unable to energize herself and need to seek out a solution for that.
So it’s really up to you, but I hope that gives some ideas!
I’ve made my inner 13-year-old very happy today, yes I have.
I said I was gonna be nostalgia doodling all day
I’m doing it
Nothing helps with art block quite as well as drawing old favorite animu characters. :V
Treasures found while packing! My grandpa was a super artist (so was my grandmother; he carved things, she painted them), and this owl made entirely out of pinecones has always been my favorite of his creations. :>
